Filmed at the classic SIDEWALK CAFÉ, LIVEPERL put on one of the most memorable acoustic shows of his career.
Flanked by long time guitarist/vocalist – Patrick Donovan and soulful diva vocalist - Tyra Juliette,
the LIVEPERL trio (on this night) delivered some stirring performances. The show leads off with the always catchy
“Dance With Me” - originally written in 1989. A lesser known tune with a Spanish flair called “Matador”
was next - as Perl played and sang “I’m Still Sane (the song for his father) solo - with the emotion
and heartfelt honesty rarely seen in more amped up band gigs. Another rare gem from the golden
mid 90’s era, “Prince Of The City” was a surprise to the set list as Tyra did her best Stevie Nicks
on “Dreams”. The highlight of the night had to be the haunting “Indecision” with Tyra
expertly singing the female leads and counterpoint with Perl still showing his penchant for
the dramatic. The mood was lightened with “Clementine” and a little Freddie tribute called
“Crazy Little Thing Called Love”. Classics - “Run For The Roses” and “Old Piano” closed
the show with the obligatory sing along (minus song sheets) in tow. Overall, Perl’s
voice was in rare form as Donovan’s guitar playing was magnificent. Once again, the
acoustic format proved to be a welcome change from the high energy band experience.
